Working for myself has been wonderful really. I'm a pretty discplined person, for the most part, which helps. I enjoy the biz aspects of the job too. Invoicing is only challenging when you accidentally send all -- ALL! of your invoices to two of your clients. Nice. I've been getting excited about marketing too. Who could benefit from my services? who needs design and communications and guidance? Identifying audiences and figuring out how to advertise to them.
and when I'm not doing billable work I work on fun projects like the onesie above. Or this one

Or this illustration:

Soon to be on greeting cards and prints. I'm really feeling creatively inspired, which has been missing for a long time.

Or on slow days, when I'm feeling totally oppressed by the desk, I leave. yep. I walk out of the door and go do something else. bliss to be able to walk away from unproductivity instead of being forced to sit somewhere and pretend to be busy. bleck. viva la revolution!

Vampire Weekend

Flavor of the week? So what. Infectious? And then some. This little foursome of college cuties are getting a mega heckton of press lately. And what’s not to like? Their sound is pretty unique, at times elements of ska-tinged guitars and ethereal harmoniums. The video is in a fun low-fi time lapse animation style. The ditty makes me happy!

Be vewwy vewwy quiet, I'm hunting bunny wabbits

My obsession with the Wii Fit Balance Board has reached a new fevered pitch. I’ve called the game stores, I’ve stalked the web, and now I’m hounding friends who have anything to do with retail. One potentially successful link is a general manager of a very large retail store of the red-circular-logo variety. Please oh please oh please. This isn’t the first time that I’ve set my eye on something gadgety and worked at it like a dog on a bone.

Once I wanted a little iPod shuffle, but wanted it at a discount. I scoured for coupons, checked prices online got frustrated when the price would suddenly popup up. Then when I did order it, I tracked its online progress. “Sweet, it’s in Indiana!” When I really could have just gone and picked it up at the store. The shipping was FREE, though, and I couldn’t refuse an offer like that!

But, like many a hunter with many a dead animal trophy on their wall, I’m a bit bored with my catch when I’ve finally dragged it home. It’s the hunt, I realize, that I’m vested in. But the Wii has proven to be an allusive target and it’s maddening. Stores can’t keep the damn thing stocked. None of them. It appears that Nintendo preferred to send more to countries with stronger currency for more profits. DAMN YOU CAPITALISM! I thought that we had invented capitalism and now you use it against us?

Did i tell you i quit my job? No? Well, now's a good a time as any to let you know that I have joined the world of the self-employed. All weekend I looked forward to going to work Monday. That, my friends, has not happened in a long while. To document my first couple of days, I took some pics.

Day 1: Page begins her new enterprise

Um. perhaps I was a little excited.

Day 2: okay people, time to get serious.

Those are not old fogey glasses, by the way. Those are COMPUTER GLASSES. While they may provide a little magnification and aid in reading, they're NOT old lady spectacles. alright? Glad I could clear that up. Also notice my hubby's superior rubberband ball in the background. sweet, no?

okay, seriously, I better get crackin!

Rather than bitch about having to shower whilst a 4 year old screamed on the other side of the sliding glass doors or lament my dumbassiness in locking my keys within a running car, i thought I'd share a happy little tune. Mike Doughty, he formerly of Soul Coughing has a new solo album coming out in February. I've been waiting and waiting! stalking his website and myspace for advance songs. Here's one i stumbled across on socialitelife! Enjoy!

I'm thinking, that on long voyages across the sea, a pirate had to have a hobby or two besides grog and mumbly peg. I'm pretty sure the lighting conditions wouldn't have been conducive to such an enterprise but the truly dedicated hobbyist/pirate would have continued bravely on. I'm thinking t-shirt, you?

The week after the holidays is just a wash, don't you think? I still regret that I can't eat and drink all day long while doing stuff that I want to do like playing WII's raving rabbids and shopping. Sitting in this chair just makes me bitter. And frankly, asking for 3 days of productivity is just pointless. So what did I do this morning? Made T-shirts for grownups! I'm gonna buy the brown one. You can buy one too!
