About mid-morning at work, I stuck my hand in the pocket of my khakis and what I found there made me smile. This morning Ruby slipped two plastic rings into my pocket and now I’m wearing one. It’s big and yellow with a big green flower painted on it. Every time I notice it I smile a little.

She is a sweet little person. And so open right now to people. I watched her shake a little girl’s hand at the Chic-fil-a the other day and say “nice to meet you”. And once she decides she likes you, you’re likely to get a hug from her. She is very chatty but we probably still understand her more reliably than others do. She says “fweet” instead of sweet, well, actually “fw” starts a lot of her words! She has a charming way of saying “I was just jokin’ you...”. And she remembers so many of the things that I’ve told her and thrown them right back at me. “You’ve GOT to be careful, mama”.

I’m looking forward to a long weekend with the girl. Work has been so busy, and we’ve had so much going on in our personal lives that it’ll be nice to slow down and listen to all her stories and play some games.
